Overview and History of Equipose / Boldenone Undecylenate
Equipoise is the brand/trade name for the anabolic steroid Boldenone, which obtain an oil-based injectable anabolic steroid with the Undecylenate ester attached to it for a prolonged release rate and half-life.
Boldenone Undecylenate is a testosterone-derived anabolic androgenic steroid that is best known by the trade name Equipoise given to it by Squibb in the 1970s. While Equipoise is officially classified as a veterinarian grade anabolic steroid, the first batches of Boldenone were introduced on the human grade pharmaceutical market by Ciba in the early 1950s under the brand name Parenabol.
Human grade Boldenone would mark some success in human medicine through the 1960s and 70s but would ultimately be discontinued by the end of the decade. Since that time, the steroid has only been available through veterinarian medicine and underground labs with the Equipoise name dominating the market. Fort Dodge Animal Health presently possesses the Equipoise name.
Many users enjoy comparing it to that of Nandrolone (Deca Durabolin), however, this comparison is a very poor one seeing as though Nandrolone exhibits different properties than Equipoise and is also a different class of compounds. (a 19-nor, also known as a progestin).
It would have been considered an oral form of Equipoise, but the methylation at the 17th carbon atom changed enough of the properties of the compound that it was considered a different anabolic steroid analog and named Methandrostenolone (Dianabol). Squibb would subsequently pick up the patents for this anabolic steroid and re-release Boldenone under the name Equipoise as a veterinary anabolic steroid meant primarily for application in horses but is also intended for use in other animals.
Equipoise is completely known for its lean mass increases as well as its appetite-stimulant effects, which is an effect common among nearly all anabolic steroids. However, Equipoise tends to stimulate the appetite to far more considerable degrees than any other anabolic steroid.
Equipoise is a structurally altered form of testosterone. It is then attached to the very large or long Undecylenate ester, which is responsible for regulating the release of the hormone once administered into the body. The Undecylenate ester allows for a peak release in Boldenone approximately 3-4 days after injection, with a gradual continuous release of the hormone to follow for approximately 21 days.
Equipoise exhibits many similarities regarding direct enhancement properties with testosterone. Equipoise is moreover properly-known for increasing red blood cell count, a trait shared by most all anabolic steroids. However, issues of concern have been noted regarding how much Equipoise can increase red blood cell count. In many ways, the increase in red blood cells provided by Equipoise can be fast and rapid, but may not present a significant advantage or disadvantage compared to most anabolic steroids when used responsibly.
Chemistry Behind Equipose / Boldenone Undecylenate

Androgenic Rating: 50
Undecylenoic acid is chemically bonded to the 17-beta hydroxyl group on the Boldenone structure. The addition of this ester augments the hormone’s release rate and half-life to favor a longer window of release.
The primary reason for the augmentation of its half-life and release rate is because once Boldenone Undecylenate enters the bloodstream, enzymes work to break the bond between the ester and the hormone, which takes a varying amount of time.
The result is that of the ester being removed from the hormone by these enzymes, and the result following this is pure Boldenone that is free to do its work in the body. This process of enzymes removing the ester from the hormone to which it is attached is what is responsible for the slower release rates.
When the Undecylenate ester is attached to Boldenone, creating Boldenone Undecylenate, the half-life of Boldenone is directly extended to 14 days, providing a slower release and activity of the hormone than the hormone otherwise would without this ester.
However, both of these hormones act significantly different from one another in the body, which is a remarkably strong indication that the addition of a methyl group (C17-alpha alkylation) to the 17th carbon does more than just affect the hormone’s resistance to breakdown in the liver – it, in fact, changes the effects and properties of the anabolic steroid.
For one thing, it possesses the same anabolic strength rating (100), and it is also an aromatizable anabolic steroid, which means that Equipoise can and does convert into Estrogen in the body through interaction with the aromatase enzyme.
However, its double-bond modifications between carbons 1 and 2 reduce its affinity for the aromatase enzyme, granting it a more reduced rate of aromatization and therefore a lower Estrogenic activity in the body.
Increasing doses will mean increased rates of aromatization of the anabolic steroid into Estrogen. Equipoise itself possesses a low androgenic strength rating (lower than its progenitor hormone Testosterone), which should be pleasing to individuals who are sensitive to any number of androgenic side effects.
Overall, individuals utilizing Equipoise can expect the same anabolic size, strength, and mass gains that would come from Testosterone with a more reduced incidence of Estrogenic activity and androgenic side effects.
This means that gains from Equipoise itself should, for the most part, be fairly solid lean mass gains with minimal water retention (depending on the dose) and would represent a perfect addition to any bulking or lean mass cycle.
As a veterinarian steroid, Equipoise is well-known for its use in horses, hence the name “Equipoise” and its similarity to the word “Equestrian.” EQ is often given to horses to increase lean body weight, which is in part due to the steroid’s ability to increase appetite.
An increased appetite is noted among many performance-enhancing athletes that use Equipoise; however, it doesn’t appear to affect everyone the same. Many who use the anabolic steroid report no increase in appetite, it tends to be highly individualistic, but it could be beneficial for those struggling to consume needed calories.
Some athletes have, however, reported stronger off-season gains when Equipoise is added to a total off-season stack rather than used as a base steroid. An increase in strength can be immensely beneficial to an off-season mass plan, but perhaps more beneficial to the enhancement of athletic performance.
This anabolic steroid is an excellent protectant of lean muscle mass. To lose body fat, you must burn more calories than you consume, you must be in a caloric deficit, and this will hold with or without anabolic steroid use.
Side-Effects of Equipose / Boldenone Undecylenate
Equipoise is a generally well-tolerated anabolic steroid for most men and is often very well-tolerated by many women when reduced doses are applied. Side effects of Equipoise use are certainly possible, but most healthy adults should find this anabolic steroid very manageable.
Due to the moderate level of aromatizing activity, most men should find its associated side effects very easy to control. To combat the estrogenic side effects of Equipoise, an anti-estrogen medication is sometimes needed.
The anti-estrogen medications you can choose include Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERM) like Nolvadex (Tamoxifen Citrate) and Aromatase Inhibitors (AI’s) like Arimidex (Anastrozole).
AI’s will prove to be the most effective as they inhibit the aromatase process and lower total serum estrogen levels. SERMs are not as effective, but they are often enough for many men.
SERM’s will not inhibit the aromatase process from occurring, but rather bind at the estrogen receptor preventing the hormone itself from binding. As a bonus, SERM’s may indeed improve cholesterol levels due to their promotion of estrogenic activity in the liver.
Equipoise can produce androgenic side effects such as acne and accelerated hair loss in those predisposed to male pattern baldness and body hair growth.
When combating the possible androgenic side effects of Equipoise, it’s substantial to note they are brought on by the steroid being metabolized by the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. You will further find the androgenic nature of Boldenone will not be significantly affected by 5-alpha reductase inhibitors like Finasteride that are frequently used to combat the reduction of DHT.
Due to the androgenic nature of Equipoise, women may potentially experience virilization symptoms. However, the low androgenicity will make this steroid possible to use for some women without such symptoms. If Equipoise is used and virilization symptoms begin to show, use should be discontinued immediately at their onset and they will fade away.
The relative cardiovascular strain brought on by Equipoise should be much less than many anabolic steroids, especially those of an oral nature. All those who supplement with Equipoise as with all anabolic steroids should keep a close eye on their cholesterol levels and should ensure they are healthy enough for use before supplementation begins.
A cholesterol-friendly lifestyle will be extremely important and should protect most who use Equipoise.
Like all anabolic steroids, Equipoise will suppress natural testosterone production. Once the use of Equipoise has come to an end and all the exogenous steroidal hormones have cleansed your system, natural testosterone production will begin again.
The revived production will occur on its own, but a Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) plan is often recommended. A PCT plan will stimulate natural testosterone production and promote more efficient recovery.
A well-planned PCT will ensure you produce enough testosterone for proper bodily function while your levels continue to naturally rise.
For those who include EQ in their cycle, your PCT plan should begin approximately 2 weeks after your last steroid injection, assuming the cycle ended with Equipoise.
Boldenone is not a hepatotoxic anabolic steroid and will present no stress or damage to the liver.
Cycles & Usage Guide
Medical Equipoise dosages and guidelines are nonexistent because Equipoise is not currently approved for human use as a medicine. Equipoise dosages are usually strikingly similar to Testosterone, and venturing higher than the intermediate range is extremely rare, especially when the user is utilizing Equipoise alongside other compounds within a cycle, which should normally be the case. Female anabolic steroid users might find Equipoise a suitable compound due to its considerably lower androgenic capabilities than Testosterone.
EQ cycles are usually run as mass gaining cycles that inevitably involve the use of at least Testosterone in some form (usually the long esters of Testosterone, to match up with EQ’s half-life).
Beginner Equipoise cycles normally involve the use of Testosterone Enanthate (or Cypionate) at around 300 – 500mg per week alongside Equipoise at about 400mg per week. Intermediate Equipoise cycles can involve the added use of an oral compound, usually Dianabol (Methandrostenolone) at about 25mg per day. The Dianabol, in this case, is run from weeks 1 – 4, and the total cycle length is 12 weeks.
Advanced Equipoise cycles routinely do not witness the use of EQ at dosages above 600mg per week. Much like the intermediate Equipoise cycles, Testosterone can be run at TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) dosages of around 100mg per week, and an advanced compound can be used alongside everything, such as Trenbolone Enanthate at 400mg per week.
How to buy?
The actual Equipoise brand by Fort Dodge Animal Health is found on the black market, and nearly every underground lab on earth manufactures its version of Boldenone Undecylenate.
Unfortunately, when it comes to the Boldenone hormone, and this includes the Equipoise brand, we retain one of the most commonly counterfeited anabolic steroids on the market. Established brands include Equipoise by Fort Dodge Animal Health, although commonly counterfeited.
Therefore, on the anabolic steroid illegal market, there will only be veterinary and UGL (Underground Laboratory) grade Equipoise for those looking to buy it.
Those looking to buy EQ will typically run into the following price ranges: on the highest end, EQ can sell for $150 – $170 for a single 10ml vial containing 200mg/ml of underground quality.
At its low end, underground Equipoise can be found for $60 – $100 for a similar type of product (10ml vial containing 200mg/ml).
Veterinary Equipoise at its highest price range can be found for $17 – $20 per 1ml glass ampoule containing 50mg/ml. At its lowest price range, the same veterinary product can be found for $12 – $15 per 1ml ampoule.
USA: In the United States, Equipoise is classified as a Schedule III drug in the Controlled Substances Act whereby possession and use of EQ or any Testosterone product without a valid prescription would be considered a felony.
Canada: Canadian law is similar to the UK, where it is a Schedule IV drug, and as such, possession and use of Equipoise for personal use without a valid physician’s prescription is not a felony and is legal.
