I have a quick question for anyone with experience using TRT injections and Luer-lock syringes.
If you draw up to the 0.2 mL mark on a 1 mL syringe, is the dose based only on where the plunger is, or should I also count the oil that sits in the luer-lock hub and the space above the zero line?

I noticed that when I draw a small air bubble into the hub, the oil reading is closer to 0.3 mL than to 0.2 mL. This makes me wonder if I’ve misunderstood how syringe calibration works.

I use the air-lock technique with about 0.1 mL of air, but I still notice a small amount of oil remaining in the dead space after injection. Is this normal with luer-lock syringes, or could I be doing something wrong?
I’d appreciate any advice from anyone who has dealt with this before.

I don't see anything wrong here. Luer-lock syringes often leave a little oil behind, even if you use the air-lock technique.

You're reading the volume correctly from the plunger. The dead space in luer-lock syringes can make it seem like there is more oil than there is.

I’ve had the same question. The dead space in luer-lock syringes is confusing, especially when dealing with small TRT doses. I’m curious to hear from people with more experience about whether the hub volume is already included in the syringe’s measurements.

You measure by looking at the plunger’s position, not the oil left in the hub or needle. If your plunger is at 0.2 mL, that’s the amount you’re drawing, based on the syringe markings. Luer-lock syringes can be confusing because of the dead space, especially with small doses. It’s normal to see a bit of oil left in the hub after injecting, even if you use an air-lock. That’s why some people choose low-dead-space syringes for TRT. By the way, what size needle and syringe do you use?
