And from what I gather American prisons are so different to Aussie prisons so I couldn't advise there,but in Aussie prisons usually picking on the small and the weak is not well tolerated by hard timers.in Oz it's not etiquette to pick a mark and target them for no reason other than that one can.

the damage he did from rec drugs is severe, we know from studies long term that it can effect him later in life even if he stops now
