Hey! Have you ever noticed how easy it is to think of protein bars as a healthy snack and forget to count their calories?
Some protein bars have 250 to over 400 calories, which is about the same as a full meal for some people. They are convenient, but eating several in a day can easily lead to taking in more calories than you planned.
Do you include protein bars in your daily calorie count, or do you just use them as a quick way to get more protein?
I found this out the hard way when I began paying more attention to what I ate. I used to have a couple of protein bars each day, thinking they were a healthy option, but they added 500-700 calories without me realizing it. I still eat them sometimes, but only when I really need something quick. Most of the time, whole foods keep me full with the same amount of calories.
I always keep track of them. Some protein bars are really just candy bars with extra protein, so the calories can add up quickly if you’re not careful. They’re convenient, but I make sure to include them in my daily calorie count like any other food.
