Who was Shawn Rhoden?

Last Saturday, the sad news was announced: Shawn Rhoden has passed away.

The news did not take long to be before being confirmed by his trainer Chris Aceto on the same day. The Jamaican bodybuilder died at the age of 46 from a heart attack.

Shawn Rhoden started bodybuilding in 1992. After some setbacks and the death of his father, Shawn got involved in alcohol and therefore quitted competing.

While everyone thought he was at a standstill, the Jamaican came back in force in 2010 by getting his IFBB Pro card. He then placed 11th in Mr. Olympia 2011. After that, he began to be considered a strong competitor. His physique may not be as impressive as some other competitors, but he was made up of near-perfect muscle definition.

 In 2018, Shawn Rhoden's career took a turn. He participated in Mr. Olympia 2018 competing against Phil Heath in particular. The latter has won 7 consecutive titles and was looking for the world record of winning his 8th coronation.

Shawn Rhoden then 43 years old, won ahead despite of Heat and became the oldest bodybuilder to win Mr. Olympia.

From that day on, Shawn Rhoden was considered a legend of the sport and a source of inspiration for new bodybuilders. The announcement of his death has impacted the world of bodybuilding which has paid tribute to him in numbers.
